El Limbo
We were approached by Penguin Random House Argentina to create a promotional video for a book “El Limbo” by Estanislao Bachrach.
It was a challenging process as we had to communicate some rather complex and abstract ideas - not to mention we had to speed read through the whole book to make sure we’d touch on all the important topics (the client left us in charge of the script in this case).
Initially, we supplied the client with two possible directions for the project: The first proposal was a film using double-exposure to generate abstract images that would allow us to communicate or show multiple concepts within one image. The second proposal was to focus on creating iconic visuals that would serve as metaphors for what would be said in the Voice Over. The visuals would “metamorphosise” from one concept to the next and we would keep the visuals simple and clean so as not to overload the viewer.
In the end, the client chose the second option and asked for the style to be kept rather “hand drawn” as opposed to having a digital look.
We kept these geometric shapes in the background throughout the animation to contrast with the very “liquid” feel of the main visuals. Having these also helped us create a sense of depth throughout the film, as though the images were floating in the abstract world of thoughts and emotions.
